Job Summary:

The Plumber is responsible for performing all plumbing trades functions necessary to assemble, install, maintain, and repair fixtures, equipment, and systems related to the facility. This position is responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance needs of the facility as it relates to plumbing infrastructure. The plumber will be required to possess and maintain a Journeyman Plumbers License.

Pay Rate: $33.80 per hour

This will be a union position

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bobs
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torches, and pipe-threading machine.
  • Bends pipe to required angles.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications
  • Unloading and carrying materials to the jobsite
  • Assisting with the installation of pipe and fittings for copper, cast iron, and PVC/CPVC pipes, and for drain, sewer, and gas lines.
  • Utilizing hand tools and cutters to cut pipe to desired lengths and electric and hand threaders to thread pipe.
  • Installing fittings and components above and inground
  • Locates and diagnoses trouble in the plumbing systems or equipment.
  • Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation.
  • Repair plumbing issues by replacing or installing components.
  • Determine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and through reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to the immediate Supervisor.
  • Answer emergency calls quickly, assess the safety of the situation upon arriving at the scene and provide directions to individuals affected.
  • Maintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
  • Journeyman Plumbers License in VA, MD, or DC
  • 5 years progressive, hands-on plumbing experience in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required level of security clearance (TS) for duration of employment.
  • Knowledge of water distribution systems, drains, plumbing systems, sprinkler systems, etc.
  • Certification in Backflow Prevention maintenance, testing, and repair - preferred but not required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of coworkers and government stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of computers and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to effectively complete tasks in a team setting or independently.
  • Ability to effectively utilize resources to maximize productivity.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team

Equipment Used:

Tools related to Potable Water, Grey Water, and Black water systems maintenance and repair, test equipment, and safety gear

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time. Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders.

Working Environment:

Work takes place in a commercial facility with indoor/ outdoor exposure. Employee may be exposed to loud noises due to machinery or equipment.
