TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or higher. Possess and maintain a current Illinois CDL for School Bus Driver. (will help obtain one if needed.)
- Self-motivated and adept at problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Successfully completes required criminal history check, physical, drug screen and proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
JOB GOAL: Alden-Hebron School District 19 bus drivers are responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Climb 3 stairs, 3 feet in height, 4 to 6 times a day.
- Ability to get from the driver's seat, down a 12' aisle, to the rear emergency exit door in a " timely manner"-school buses vary in length from 24-40 feet.
- Ability to apply pressure to the gas pedal, brake pedal (and clutch if necessary).
- Ability to perform a pre-trip inspection and post-trip inspection (which requires bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, etc.) and complies with the standards of bus cleanliness.
- Opening and closing bus windows from the inside of the school bus.
- Ability to lift 35-50 lbs.
- Ability to carry or drag students from the bus - weights and sizes vary.
- Ability to exit emergency door.
- Ability to secure students in child restraint.
- Obeys all traffic laws and school bus regulations while operating the school bus.
- Maintains proficiency in driving skills.
- Accepts responsibility for reporting observable mechanical defects or failures on the school bus.
- Accepts responsibility for securing the school bus/vehicle before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route.
- Is responsible for completing required reports relating to transportation.
- Ensures the safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing school bus.
- Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times.
- Operates the school bus on the assigned route(s) and schedule as provided by the transportation office.
- Transports authorized students only.
- Discharges students at the authorized school or bus stop locations.
- Reports infractions of school bus safety rules to the principal or designee.
- Maintains acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Attends bus safety meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality of all school-related matters
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the transportation coordinator and/or superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year is to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be completed by the Transportation Coordinator on an annual basis.
