The Nuclear Nonproliferation Specialist will have exciting opportunities to innovate approaches to nuclear nonproliferation by providing technical and/or policy expertise to research and capacity-building engagement projects within Argonne’s Nuclear Technology and National Security Directorate (NTNS). The selected individual will be a member of the Nonproliferation Innovation Group in the Strategic Security Sciences (S3) Division but will have the ability, aligned with availability and interests, to support projects related to nuclear security and nonproliferation of nuclear and nuclear-related technologies in other NTNS divisions such as the Nuclear Science and Engineering, the Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies, and the Decision and Infrastructure Sciences Divisions. The position will involve research of nuclear engineering technology and implemented policies and techniques relevant to a range of activities (e.g., material accountability, international and/or domestic safeguards, radiological/nuclear security, radiation detection, reactor modeling, back-end fuel cycle areas such as waste management/reprocessing, process monitoring, advanced reactor designs, nuclear economics, proliferation resistance, machine learning, arms control, etc.). Leveraging their expertise and interests, the selected individual will work with principal investigators and provide support for a wide range of projects, with opportunities to grow in proposing and leading projects funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration, various Department of Energy offices, and other federal sponsors. **Position Requirements** _To be considered you must have:_ + Knowledge of U.S. and international nuclear policies, with a focus on nuclear nonproliferation, nuclear security, nuclear energy development, nuclear fuel cycle management, nuclear safeguards, and nuclear export controls. + Applicable understanding of science and engineering principles associated with the nuclear fuel cycle, radiological security, or other related technical areas such as nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, chemistry, and/or physics. + Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions. + Skill in organizational and time management, with careful attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple stakeholders and priorities and experience working independently under time constraints to meet critical deadlines. + The selected individual will be placed in the appropriate job profile “Nuclear/Reactor Engineering” or “Social Science/Law” based on the background and qualifications brought to the position. + A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
