Position Function/Purpose

Assist the Librarian in the preparation and management of activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified Librarian.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  2. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the librarian.
  4. Processing books and instructional media.
  5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day.
  6. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  7. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly library.
  8. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  9. Inventory classroom needs on a regular basis.
  10. Shelve books, magazines and newspaper.
  11. Responding to needs of VIPS personnel for partners in reading.
  12. Assist the Librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  13. Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
  14. Provide assistance to substitute teachers.
  15. Other duties as assigned by cluster librarian and or building principals.
  16. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or GED. 30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  2. Ability to work well with children
  3. Knowledge of general office equipment
  4. Basic typing and computer knowledge
