Job Description Summary: Under general direction of the Pharmacy Director, continuously is responsible for carrying out all functions of the Pharmacy according to hospital needs and professional principles and standards; and for maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations. Position Responsibilities + Performs duties relating to dispensing of medication. + Reviews written prescriptions to assure the prescription does not result in overdose, toxicity, or other hazard if filled as prescribed, and if necessary, requests clarification from the medical practitioner or nurse. + Verifies patient medication history and monitors for drug/drug interactions, adverse reactions, allergies or other drug related problems. + Compounds medications or selects pre-packaged pharmaceuticals from stock, fills orders, and packages and labels them appropriately. + Prepares IV additives, total parenteral nutrition solutions and other IV solutions. + Follows established policies and procedures and standard practices for compounding, packaging, and labeling medications; rechecks labels for accuracy and compliance with all federal, state, and local codes and regulations before dispensing or delivering medication. + Processes prescription medications for Emergency Department patients and inpatients. + Completes written records of prescriptions and controlled substances as required. + Checks stock supplies of drugs and pharmaceuticals on each nursing unit and medication carts daily and replenishes them as necessary. + Participates in all functions and activities of the department, including Quality Assessment, Drug Utilization Evaluations, and other various duties as assigned by the pharmacy supervisor. + Consults with medical staff, nursing staff and other departmental personnel providing pharmaceutical information and recommendations whenever necessary or requested. + Participates on hospital committees as requested and in hospital projects and public relations programs as requested. + Checks the anesthesia medication carts monthly and removes all outdated and otherwise unusable medications. + Monitors Adverse Drug Reactions. + Cleans equipment used in the performance of duties according to established procedures and infection control policies. + Performs duties relating to purchasing and receiving functions in the absence of the Pharmacy Supervisor. + Sees that pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals, and performs related purchasing and receiving duties. + Regularly inspects department for compliance with established standards and policies and procedures, and reports violations to the Pharmacy Supervisor. + Sees that appropriate records are maintained of all drugs and any other controlled substances that are stored in or dispensed from the pharmacy. + Meets with salespersons concerning products and meets with other Pharmacy Directors concerning economy purchasing, discounts and quality of non-drug products, as necessary. + Checks incoming merchandise, marks invoices for payment, and routes to the business office; follows established procedures for disposition of damaged goods and for handling shipping or invoice errors; verifies prices and updates pricing in drug dictionary and places them in stock. + Periodically checks and removes outdated or otherwise unusable items from stock removes recall items from stock, nursing units, and supply carts as soon as notified. + Assists Pharmacy Supervisor in accumulating statistics and preparing reports as required by CEO, CCO, government agencies and other authorities. + Regularly checks department equipment for malfunction or defects and requisitions maintenance and repair service. + Maintains adequate Automated Dispensing Cabinet med-station inventories daily. + Other duties as assigned. + Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct: LHW is dedicated to the highest ethical standards as it is essential to meeting our commitment to our mission and vision. Familiar with and adheres to LHW's published Code of Conduct which provides guidance and expectations regarding confidentiality, conflict of interest, billing, controlled substances, Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), payments for referrals, gifts, anti-kickback laws, safety and health, waste disposal, and compliance with antitrust laws, advertising and marketing, discrimination, insider trading and government requests. + Reports any violation or suspected violation of this Code or other hospital policies or procedures to supervisor, Compliance Officer or through the compliance hotline. + Attends and/or completes mandatory training regarding organizational compliance. Education and Experience Requirements Requires: B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy; Montana Pharmacy license in good standing with no prior disciplinary actions. Requires current CPR or AHA BLS certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire. Desire: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital setting, automated medication dispensing stations, Hospital Information System (ex: McKesson Paragon) application experience, competency in basic word processing, spread sheet, and data base software. Shift: Day Shift - 10 Hours (United States of America) Schedule Details: Please know schedules and shifts are subject to change based on patient care and department/organizational needs. Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
