JOB SUMMARY

A Critical Care Nurse is responsble for providing direct nursing care to patients in PACU situation. They must locate and document medical and nursing patient care information in the medical record. They should perform a thorough admission assessment, deliver patient care and treatment using problem-solving and critical thinking skills. A Critical Care Nurse should have knowledge of medication dosages for the patient population served. They should initiate and coordinate patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods. They evaluate outcomes of care to determine if the patient's needs were met. They should willingly assist as needed in all peri-anesthesia settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs thorough admission assessment, utilizes appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy and provides appropriate intervention
  • Delivers patient care and treatment using problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of medication dosages for patient population served. Administers medication safely and accurately, and utilizes available resources when questions arise
  • Initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods
  • Evaluates outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met
  • Provides feedback regarding problems and complaints and offers constructive suggestions. Uses chain-of-command for problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Maintains communication with patient family/significant other as patient progresses through continuum of care
  • Identifies standards of care common to patient population, i.e. age specifics and barriers to learning

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • 1-2 years critical care RN experience required for PACU. 1 year acute care RN experience required for Pre-Op
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required for North Naples Campus and must be acquired within first 90 days
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
