The Position:

Under the direction of the Director of Cytology, the Cytotechnologist will be responsible for the daily technical and stain quality assessment, processing of Thyroid FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) samples and go to for general technical questions. The Cytotechnologist uses scientific methods to solve problems and works closely with laboratory personnel to ensure patient samples are handled according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Adhere to and documents all quality control / quality assurance activities.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results.
  • Assist in the proper storage and maintenance of cytology records and samples.
  • Assists in ensuring the laboratory is compliant with corporate, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to personnel safety and quality of the laboratory.
  • Assists with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of new equipment and methods.
  • Maintains technical knowledge in cytopathology and/or histopathology.
  • Ensure proper coverage and scheduling to maintain laboratory TAT expectations and KPI goals.
  • Perform inspections and validations of methodology and instrumentation.
  • Participates in all non-technical activities to support team members and operations, including Specimen Receiving, Accessioning, Processing, slide archival, etc.
  • Perform daily stain and technical assessments of cytology and histology slides.
  • Recommend action plans for Process Improvements.
  • Promotes the continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental/infection control standards and practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Who You Are

Required Work Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year as a Cytotechnologist.
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical lab, physical, or biological science.
  • Meet state licensure requirements, if applicable.
  • Certification is required:
    • Certified as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology or equivalent
Preferred Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years as a Cytotechnologist with experience working in a high- complexity laboratory.
  • Meet CLIA requirements (CFR.493. 1483).
  • Liquid- based cytology training/certification preferred.

The anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in Austin, Texas is $45.00 to $52.00 per hour. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
