Department: Inpatient Float Pool

  • Shift: Nights
  • FTE: 0.05
  • Position Summary: Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients in clinical specialty. Work in adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Serve as role model for positive work environment and quality patient care. Per Diem III must work a minimum of 10 shifts per schedule, including two weekend shifts and one summer and winter holiday. No out of area float pay. Age groups treated: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Detailed responsibilities:
    • PATIENT CARE: Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients
    • POLICIES: Adhere to hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies
    • CARE PLAN: Implement and document individualized care plans and take age specific considerations into account, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching, in collaboration with the healthcare team
    • TESTS AND PROCEDURES: Assist with special tests and procedures and ensure proper consent
    • PARTICIPATION: Participate in orientation, precepting, and evaluation of new personnel
    • EMERGENCY MEASURES: Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
    • MEDICAL RECORDS: Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
    • INQUIRIES: Answer phone calls and triage as per departmental policy
    • MEDICATION: Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights, document and communicate clinical findings
    • ENVIRONMENT: Maintain safe and comfortable environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards
    • DEVELOPMENT: Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
    • PATIENT SAFETY 1-5: Follow, question, and report safety policies, procedures, and protocols to improve patient safety
  • Qualifications
    • Education:
      • Essential: Program Graduate, Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate
      • Nonessential: Bachelor's Degree, Nursing
    • Experience:
      • Essential: 1 year directly related experience
      • Nonessential: Bilingual English/Spanish, 3 years directly related experience
    • Credentials:
      • Essential: CPR/BLS certification for healthcare or professional rescuers within 30 days, RN in NM or allowed by reciprocal agreement, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
      • Nonessential: National certification in area of specialty, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
    • Physical Conditions: Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly
    • Working Conditions: Requires PPE for biohazardous materials and involves chemical exposure.
