Shift: 40 hours/week

Location:Minneapolis, MN

Duration: 13 weeks

Summary:

The Perianesthesia Nurse provides pre and post-anesthesia care to patients undergoing invasive procedures, ensuring utmost safety throughout the care process. They are responsible for assessing patient conditions, identifying subtle changes, and taking timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks. Collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams is integral to develop and execute comprehensive care plans. The role also entails accountability for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of care, along with prompt initiation of resuscitation measures during emergent situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of perianesthesia patients upon their arrival and throughout their stay.
  2. Gathers and communicates pertinent patient information to relevant healthcare team members including surgeons, anesthetists, and OR nurses.
  3. Reviews patient medications and completes documentation for the Medication Reconciliation process as required.
  4. Documents patient assessments, adhering to Perioperative Services policies and guidelines.
  5. Utilizes information management systems within the Perianesthesia Department Specialty effectively.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of perianesthesia experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of PACU experience or completion of a comparable program.
  • Current MN RN license.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications through AHA.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (read, write, speak).

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited perianesthesia nursing program or equivalent experience.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
  • Current RN license in the state of Minnesota.
