DescriptionJOB SUMMARYResponsible for providing cardiopulmonary care and life support to patients with heart and lung difficulties in accordance with specific physician's orders, department policies and procedures. Reports to Cardiopulmonary Manager. Non-Exempt position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMaintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery.Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each. Monitors the patient for side effects and documents accordingly.Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record prior to treatment, during treatment and following completion of any service.Performs all duties as outlined in the "Shift Responsibilities" section for the shift that the therapist works.Performs EKGs and sends reports to physicians who requested them and files reports in department in accordance with department procedures.Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Patient's family is included in teaching as appropriate.Provides adequate and effective education of specific cardiopulmonary disease.POSITION REQUIREMENTSMinimum Education Current Texas State Respiratory Care Practitioner's Licensure required. Current BLS for healthcare provider's certification required.ACLS and PALS certification required. Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP) required within six months of hire. Required SkillsMust possess superior ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service. Must possess high degree of organization and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively.Basic computer knowledge required. Ability to use standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).FUNCTIONAL DEMANDSFunctional Job Requirements: Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary. Lifting RequirementsJob requires medium lifting on an occasional basis.
