The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as an Medical Coder at Montana State Hospital.

The Medical Coder reviews and analyzes health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for health services provided to patients at the Montana State Hospital. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity:

* Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, DSM-5 and CPT coding and classification systems. * Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. * Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations covering HIPAA, healthcare standards, and Protected Health Information. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to locate data in and abstract applicable information from medical records. * Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary. * Meet the following minimum qualifications: * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Two years of job-related college or technical school in medical coding, health information technology, or closely related field. * Two years of experience working in a healthcare setting with medical records, medical terminology, data entry, or a related field. * Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) status preferred. * Ability to complete data entry test with a minimum of 25 wpm (net) with 80% accuracy. * Ability to complete Medical Coding test with minimum score of 80%.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.50 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024.

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants. The first screening of candidates will take place on March 08, 2024.
