Our Legal 500 ranked Family Law Department is currently looking for a Solicitor to join the established Cheshire team. You will be working directly with experienced and professionally recognised Partners to continue to grow and promote the Firm’s offering for our clients. The Butcher & Barlow Family Law team has a diverse and extensive client base. You will be working alongside Partners who have many years of experience and who will be available to assist and progress your career. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious solicitor who is looking for a real opportunity to develop their career in this area of law with a leading regional firm. What we are looking for: Our ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor with 5 years plus PQE in family law. You should have the ability to run and maintain a varied case load covering different types of family law cases, including private law children and financial matters. You should be confident to undertake advocacy at an appropriate level, especially for directions hearings. What we expect of you: You should: Have the ability to manage your own caseload. Be comfortable maintaining and strengthening existing client and professional relationships and helping build new relationships. Have competent IT skills including the use of a case and document management system and be willing to learn new technology. Be an excellent communicator, both face to face and over the telephone. Have the ability to draft and prepare clear and concise documents. Have the ability to work accurately under pressure Have good time and file management skills and be able to prioritise tasks. Have an interest in advocacy and willingness to represent clients before the court at directions and other appropriate hearings, and to develop as an advocate generally. Have an interest in marketing and in developing the Firm’s practice including attendance at business development events and working with and supporting the Firm’s marketing function in order to drive the growth of the department. Team structure: You will be working within a team structure but will have your own case load which you must be confident to run independently. You will have the benefit of administrative support and and we can provide assistance and training to ensure you are working at the right level as part of our team. The Family Law team, led by Kevan Hankinson, has 5 additional Partners

, all specialising in Family Law and supporting the 18 strong team.

Angela Gleave and Claire Jackson are

leading the team for high value or corporate cases in Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Rachel Cryan leads the specialist Legal Aid and Care team for Greater Manchester and Nicola Wingfield, leads the Care team for Cheshire and Merseyside. This gives the highest possible degree of expertise to our clients, and there is no area of family law for which we cannot provide a seasoned and helpful specialist. The department operates on the basis that each client receives a bespoke, tailored service from an expert who will oversee the case from start to finish.

This differentiates the department from many of our competitors who rigidly adhere to progressing the case as the firm requires, not the client, often via call centres or unqualified staff. At Butcher & Barlow, we listen to each client and support them as they need, whether that is some advice and support to reach a settlement or the full presentation of a contested case before a circuit judge.
