Your Role

The Blue Shield of California Commercial Finance team is responsible for providing financial planning and analysis support for the mid to large segment employer groups. The Financial Analyst, Senior will report to the Sr. Manager, Finance Analytics. In this role, you will be responsible for the monthly membership close deliverables which includes analysis, reporting and summarizing membership data. You will also work with large sets of data to maintain multiple databases and produce monthly and ad hoc reports. You will work closely to collaborate with other stakeholders (actuarial, accounting, underwriting, enterprise finance, growth solutions).

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Summarize detailed revenue/expense data and compare summarized claim data against fee schedules and contracts
  • Produce contract performance reports, modeling of reimbursement rates, evaluation of financial contract modifications and compiling and monitoring key managed care statistics
  • Collect and evaluate data, develop and maintain financial models, analyze results and conduct scenario analyses to forecast balance sheet, cash flow and regulatory capital
  • Follow and conduct audit processes and review internal controls to ensure financial transactions are accurate, timely and comply with accounting standards, principles and company policy
  • Provide policy guidance and interpretation to ensure financial records are consistent and comply with company policies and GAAP
  • Partner with consolidation accounting teams to ensure accuracy of monthly financials and correct any issues with the data
  • Research and respond timely and accurately to customer (internal and external) inquiries
  • Create, maintain and manipulate various databases to create meaningful tools for analysis
  • Identifies business process opportunities, test solutions, and revises desk level procedures to reflect changes. Identify opportunities to automate/digitize processes
  • Summarize and present complex financial information to senior management from time to time
  • Support, and potentially lead projects as a subject matter expert

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Requires at least 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires advanced Office skills (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Requires strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex analytical data simply and connect them to business results for different audiences
  • Requires ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Basic SQL/Tableau desired but not required

Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $87,230.00 to $130,900.00 for California.

Note: Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
