Job Summary and Qualifications- Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
- Determines the most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.
- Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
- Works under the direction of the Radiologist at all times.
- Takes x-ray, CT call according to monthly schedule after the closing of regular department hours.
- Competent in the use of CR and PACS.
- Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during an exam.
- Completes all work before leaving including checking with the nurses’ stations, ER, Surgery, holding, etc.
- Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
- Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
- Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed exam; documents any deviations.
- Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family.
- Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent.
- Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.
- Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
- Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
- Has knowledge of hospital policies and functions of other departments.
- Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an age appropriate manner.
- Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of the pain using age appropriate interventions.
- Completes annual educational requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
- Attends required staff meetings.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
- A high level of cross-sectional anatomy
- Proficiency with most major CT equipment manufacturers’ hardware and software
- Registered Radiographer (ARRT) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- State Registered Radiologic Technician
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
