Position Summary

The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for prepping, scanning, QA and releasing records to the EMR. Responsible for Release of Information (releasing records) to patients and doctors offices. Access computerized patient record and/or other computer systems for patient information needed for faxing and for other requestors of the medical record.

Reports to: Director of Medical Records

Responsibilities of the Position

Interacts with requestors to identify medical records needs for patient.

Provides excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful; insures understanding of customer request and follows-through as promised; and being proactive in identifying client concerns, or problems.

Helps resolve customer service matters in a polite manner.

Ensures the requesting party has legal right to request patients Medical Information.

Ability to know, understand and apply federal and state regulations.

Maintains current knowledge related to applicable statutes, regulations, guidelines, and standards necessary to perform job duties in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Compliance Plan.

Complies with the requirements of the Code of Conduct, Corporate Compliance Plan and Compliance Policies and Procedures, including training requirements.

Participates in compliance activities under the direction of the Department Compliance Officer.

Ability to work in sometimes demanding environment and perform other duties as requested.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Skills

Previous experience in a medical office or medical records department.

Microsoft word, excel and email experience.

Data entry skills are necessary.

Must be able to operate phone, copy machine and Fax Machine.

Some multi-tasking within HIM.

Operation of Computer and Scanner.

Must be able to follow instructions, policy, processes, and workflow.

Must understand HIPPA Privacy - Safeguard and protect the patients’ rights to privacy.
