Job Summary and QualificationsUnder the direction of the Radiology Supervisor, Lead Technologist, Director of Medical Imaging, and Staff Radiologists, the CT Technologist is responsible to safely and proficiently perform computerized tomography imaging procedures and related patient care according to, government regulations, physician orders, policies and procedures of the Medical Imaging Department, and policies and procedures of the hospital.
What you will do in this role:
- Explains CT procedures to gain patient confidence and cooperation. Keeps patient informed of progress during the procedure. Remains at the control station during the scan keeping the patient under constant observation.
- Consistently produces diagnostic quality scans without assistance or supervision. Uses good judgment in seeking assistance or supervision when it is needed.
- Consistently uses correct scanning protocols. Shows ability to adapt imaging routines to special imaging situations. Has a good working knowledge of cross-section anatomy.
- Understand tube heat precautions and considers slice and technique load on tube.
- Consistently positions patients correctly and safely on imaging table.
- Uses appropriate patient immobilization devices to prevent motion and repeat slices.
- Takes necessary repeat slices without waiting to be told that they are necessary and without attempting to slip by poor films.
- Takes appropriate precautions to prevent patient falls or injury. Insures that unstable patients are not left alone on imaging tables.
- Properly sets up patient, supplies, and equipment before summoning radiologist to begin a biopsy or guidance procedure. Assists radiologists as needed during procedures.
- Has good working knowledge laser printer and film processor.
- Can perform all types of scans independently with quality results.
- Follows routine contrast dosage exactly. Consults radiologist is special situations to insure appropriate dosage and injection rate.
- Uses contrast injector cautiously to prevent infiltration. Always observes patient carefully during contrast injection. Knows contrast reaction procedures.
- Accomplishes radiation therapy procedures as required. Can archive and retrieve image data as needed.
- Can produce quality E.R. trauma films quickly while working around others.
- Understands sterile technique and takes action as necessary to prevent the contamination of sterile equipment or a sterile field during a procedure.
- Insures that necessary supplies are readily available before starting procedures and keeps supply stocks neat and organized including linen.
- Participates in rotating shift, call and holiday coverage to provide continuous availability of CT services. Arrives at hospital within thirty (30) minutes of callback.
- Takes time to physically look for tubes, catheters, wires, restraints, IV’s and other medical devices before attempting to move or transport patients
- Takes personal responsibility to insure the functional integrity of patient life support equipment or other equipment that must be moved or temporarily disconnected when working with patients.
- Takes time to communicate patient or family requests for assistance to the nursing staff before leaving the nursing unit.
- Follows age related protocols regarding radiation protection, exam preps, contrast dosage, consents, and patient education.
- Uses hospital equipment safely and responsibly without excessive force. Reports broken equipment, malfunctions, or observed hazards to supervisor.
What qualifications you will need:
- CT experience and proven competence as determined by CT Supervisor, Department Director, and Medical Director. 1 Year experience required for PRN positions
- Current G.M.R.T. registry with the Texas Medical Board. (L.M.R.T. is not accepted)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Registered Radiographer (ARRT)
- State Registered Radiologic Technician
- Associate Degree must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
