The Staff Pad has partnered with a Technology company in Houston, Texas looking to add a Senior Accountant -Sales Tax Specialist to the team. We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant with a strong background in sales tax to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive experience in managing sales tax compliance, reporting, and analysis, coupled with advanced accounting expertise. This role involves ensuring adherence to tax regulations, optimizing tax processes, and supporting overall financial accuracy and integrity.
Account Reconciliation: Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, Sales Tax accounts and other financial accounts. Resolve discrepancies and ensure timely resolution.
Month-End and Year-End Close: Help Lead and manage the month-end and year-end closing processes. Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
Sales Tax Compliance: Manage and oversee all aspects of sales tax compliance, including the preparation, filing, and payment of sales tax returns. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations. Ensure accurate and timely recording of sales tax transactions in the general ledger.
Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to optimize sales tax processes and minimize tax liabilities. Provide guidance on tax-efficient practices and planning opportunities.
Reporting and Analysis: Prepare detailed sales tax reports for management, including analyses of sales tax liabilities, exemptions, and refunds. Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the organization.
Audit and Documentation: Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during audits. Maintain thorough and organized documentation to support tax positions and compliance.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements related to sales tax accounting and compliance. Enhance automation and efficiency in tax-related procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as Sales, and legal to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions and compliance with tax regulations
Training and Support: Provide training and support to team members and other departments regarding sales tax matters. Address any tax-related questions or issues that arise.
Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to sales tax to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field;
· Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on sales tax compliance and reporting.
· In-depth knowledge of sales tax regulations and practices at the federal, state, and local levels.
· Proven experience with tax software and accounting ERP software (e.g., Business Central, SAP, Oracle, Avalara, Vertex, etc.) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel. Word).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and apply them to business practices.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
