Scope of Work

Work in partnership with leadership and clinical team members to facilitate the development and implementation of clinical and practice standards across the ambulatory system.

Using tools of consulting, mentoring, coaching and interprofessional collaboration, the ambulatory nurse educator facilitates the professional role development and growth of non-provider clinical team members.

By utilizing the various roles of the nurse educator outlined by the Association for Nursing Professional Development (learning facilitator; change agent; mentor; leader; champion for scientific inquiry; advocate for NPD specialty; partner for practice transitions), the ambulatory nurse educator facilitates the advancement of non-provider clinical team members from novice to expert.

Seeks professional growth through organizational opportunities, professionally recognized certifications, and/or graduate level education.

  • In collaboration with practice manager and department preceptor, oversees orientation, as part of the onboarding process, to ensure that new hire/transfer employees have the knowledge and skill to safely practice independently in their role.
  • Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel.
  • Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts and evaluates competency programs. Collaborates with operational leaders to address deficits in employee’s knowledge and skills.
  • Designs and develops educational opportunities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills and practice. This may include E-learning development and obtaining continuing education approval.
  • Fosters interprofessional learning and enables effective collaboration to improve practice outcomes for the nurse and other health care personnel. Functions as a mentor, coach, and resource in the development of nursing and other clinical support roles as the employee transitions throughout their career life cycle.
  • Applies research, evidenced based practice and process/quality improvement principles in education, orientation, competency and clinical operational projects.
  • Provides administrative leadership in identification and project management of clinical operations improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • Preferred Master's Degree Nursing or Nursing Education
  • 5 years of relevant experience Clinical experience related to area of focus Required
  • 2 years of relevant experience Education and project/program development Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Upon Hire required
