Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant utilizes professional knowledge and behaviors to treat patients with a variety of physical, educational, or psychosocial disabilities under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs patient treatments and updates patient plans of care under the supervision of an occupational therapist, in accordance with state and national board regulations.
2. Communicates effectively with patients, family, and team members as needed for care collaboration.
3. Performs appropriate screenings/standardized assessments according to age and diagnosis. Provides assessment scores and test results to OT for interpretation.
4. Assesses for and provides splints and/or adaptive equipment as appropriate to meet the patient’s needs.
5. Performs appropriate and necessary documentation and patient/family education. Adheres to departmental standards for timely completion of documentation.
6. Provides supervision and coordination to students and/or volunteers.
7. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
8. Other duties as required.
Other information:
Technical Expertise
1. Experience in clinical pediatric occupational therapy is preferred.
2. Experience with documentation using an electronic medical record is preferred.
3. BLS is required.
4. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
5. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
6. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
1. Education: Successful completion of an accredited two-year OT assistant program is required.
2. Certification: Licensure through the state of Ohio is required. Certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy is required. Advanced clinical certification/training is preferred.
3. Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 3 years clinical is preferred.
4. Years of experience supervising: None.
