Requirements
- BSN
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Emergency Room specialty required
- Experience in education or staff development required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Preferred:
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred
- Master's degree, MSN in Nursing Education
- Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school preferred
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- CEN or TNCC Certification
- BLS, PALS, and ACLS
- Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement
Scheduling Requirements:
- Day Shift
- Monday Friday with shift scheduling to meet the needs of the department
- Full Time
Essential Functions:
- The Emergency Department Nurse Educator is a Registered Professional Nurse who has the expertise in Emergency Room Nursing in the clinical setting and nursing professional development and education. Experience for this role includes an in-depth understanding and management of a wide scope of Emergency Room Patients
- The Emergency Department Educator must have an in-depth understanding of the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice and the Association of Emergency Room Nursing Standards.
- She/he is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization s Mission, Vision, and Values, and actively participates in the shared governance process.
- She/he is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care and policies and procedures of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center-RWJBH, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families.
- The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent. Assesses data relevant to the learner s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans.
- The Emergency Department Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, fellow educators, management, allied professional employees and other healthcare providers.
- In addition to the aforementioned skills, the Emergency Department Nurse Educator must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus.
- The Emergency Department Nurse Educator will assist in the onboarding, orientation and clinical practice evaluation of the RNs and professional employees in the Emergency Department and ED Observational areas
- The Nurse Educator will participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
- Qualified applicants for this role need demonstrated clinical competency in the Critical Care/Step-Down environment consistent with the Association of Emergency Department Nursing Standards of Practice.
- The Nurse Educator may assist in other departments as clinically requested by nursing leadership. Demonstrated teaching ability is required for the position.
