Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Advocate system level components to fulfill their collective Multiagency Coordination (MAC) role that supports Advocate hospitals in the event of an incident or disruptive event.
  • Prepares the MAC to operate under the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) organizational principles. Ensures the MAC performs critical functions including situation awareness/assessment, incident priority determination, critical resource allocation and procurement, support of incident preparedness policies and interagency activities, as well as coordination with regulatory, local, state, and Federal officials and healthcare partnerships.
  • Coordinates command and control functions, which may occur on an ad hoc basis or when initiated at the Advocate Aurora Security Command Center. In conjunction with the leadership team, develops and tests the capacity of the AASCC to collect, summarize, and disseminate accurate information during crisis.
  • Develops, trains, and tests emergency preparedness activities of system departmental participants.
  • Integrates system emergency preparedness training and testing with hospital training and testing.
  • Using the Hospital Incident Command Structure (HICS) framework, develops Advocate Aurora Health Care System Business Continuity Plan (BCP) in collaboration with operational and support departments that would comprise the Business Continuity Team.
  • Ensures that AAHC system Business Continuity Team implements appropriate Prevention, Response, Recovery, Testing and Training, and Evaluation and Maintenance activities to be prepared for a disruptive incident.
  • Establishes and monitors system standards and regulatory compliance. Coordinates an Emergency Preparedness program to comply with licensure, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the Advocate Aurora Emergency Preparedness Council. Promotes unity of effort, leads in initiative development and implementation, and supports the needs of the hospitals.
  • Serves as the matrixed (dotted line) leader to hospital Emergency Preparedness Managers/Coordinators as a subject matter expert for Emergency Preparedness.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required: None

Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, or

Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related field.

Experience Required:

Typically requires 10 years of experience in disaster and emergency planning experience and experience working with groups of individuals of diverse backgrounds and interests. Previous leadership experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Excellent Microsoft suite skills.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, organization, and measurement skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of and job history involving emergency management.
  • Ability to make quick decisions.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
