About Camp Hale
Located on Squam Lake in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Camp Hale has provided Boston youth the opportunity to experience sleepaway camp since 1900. As part of United South End Settlements, a nonprofit dedicated to building a community that fosters children’s growth, inspires new possibilities, and provides the tools to create positive change, Camp Hale welcomes 300+ youth each summer, ages 5–17.
Camp Hale’s sliding-scale tuition model ensures cost is never a barrier to belonging, and roughly 75% of families receive financial assistance. Camp Hale is one of only seven camps in New England that serve primarily Black and Brown youth, and 78% of our campers identify as BIPOC. Campers hike, swim, canoe, garden, and build lasting friendships across the racial, ethnic, and socio-economic differences that make up our community.
Camp Hale is part of USES’s broader continuum of programming, alongside Early Childhood Education (ECE), Children’s Art Centre, and club48, a year-round afterschool and out-of-school time program that serves the Boston community.
