Job Description
About the role
We are a small textile and soft-goods workroom looking for a hands-on Production Coordinator & Cutting Lead. You will spend about 70% of your day at the cutting table, and the rest keeping production on track: reading production bibles, tracking inventory, processing orders and shipping smaller orders for retail partners including Etsy and Z Gallerie.
This role suits someone organized and detail-minded who knows fabric, understands how a sewing workroom runs, and can catch problems before they become expensive.
Key responsibilities
Cutting and production (about 70% of the role)
Operate multiple types of cutting machines and prepare cut work for the sewing room
Read and follow production bibles for each style, including specs, materials and construction notes
Calculate and verify fabric yields to minimize waste and ensure enough material for each order
Run production day to day and keep work moving on schedule
Spot production problems early, such as fabric flaws, spec errors or yield shortfalls, and raise them promptly
Understand the capabilities of our sewing machines so work is routed to the right machine and operator
Prepare fabric samples and swatches
Orders, inventory and shipping
Download and process orders from our online sales channels
Read purchase orders and confirm quantities, styles, fabrics and due dates
Track fabric, materials and finished goods inventory, and flag low stock
Complete simple Excel tasks such as updating inventory and order logs
Pack and ship smaller orders, including Etsy and Z Gallerie orders
Pick up materials and deliver finished goods as needed
Keep the cutting table, workroom and storage areas neat and organized
Required qualifications Bilingual in English and Spanish, spoken and written
Strong communication skills with the owner, sewing staff, vendors and customers
Experience running or coordinating production in a sewing, upholstery or soft-goods workroom
Able to read and understand production bibles and spec sheets
Working knowledge of fabric yields and fabric behavior
Experience operating multiple types of cutting machines
Familiar with the capabilities of different industrial sewing machines
Comfortable on a computer: downloading orders, basic Excel, reading purchase orders
Experience with inventory tracking
Neat, organized and detail-oriented
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Physical requirements Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs, including fabric bolts and shipping boxes
Able to stand and work at a cutting table for most of the day (about 70% of working time)
Able to bend, reach and use hands for repetitive cutting, measuring and packing tasks
Vehicle requirement This role includes regular pickups and deliveries of fabric, materials and finished goods. You must have reliable access to your own small truck or cargo van suitable for hauling bolts of fabric and boxed orders. A company vehicle is not provided. Business use of your vehicle will be reimbursed at $0.76 per mile.
