Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the Role
The Test Engineer Technician is a hands-on role supporting the test systems that validate Torus's flywheel and spin cap products. Working under the direction of senior test engineers, this person helps build and maintain test setups, assists in developing test automation code (LabVIEW), executes performance and reliability tests on Flywheel Energy Storage Systems (FESS), and supports the documentation that turns test methods into repeatable procedures.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career technician who is hands-on, eager to learn, and excited to grow at the intersection of hardware, instrumentation, and software. You'll be mentored by experienced test engineers and given room to develop your skills as you go.
Who You Are
You're early in your career and eager to build. The kind of person who'd rather have their hands on a test stand than read about one. You bring more curiosity than credentials right now, and that's exactly what we're looking for: a fast learner who takes ownership of getting better.
- You seek context before you conclude. When a test behaves unexpectedly, you ask questions and assume positive intent rather than guessing — you want to understand the "why," and you pull in the engineers around you to get there.
- You communicate the answer first. When something's off with a test, you flag it promptly and directly, and you lead with the result instead of burying it under detail. You can tell a senior engineer what happened in plain, simple language.
- You value speed and quality equally. In a test environment, "do it nice, or do it twice" is literal — you move fast but you double-check, because rerunning a cycle-life test costs days, not minutes.
- You focus on the "A." You know your strengths and where you still need to grow, and you actively apply the former to the latter. Feedback lands as fuel, not criticism.
- You stay cautiously optimistic. You meet hard problems — and a hyper-growth hardware company has plenty — with the belief they're solvable, while staying clear-eyed about the obstacles and the real safety stakes of working around high-energy, high-speed equipment.
- You think in systems. You see how the data you collect connects to the bigger picture, and you treat your test results as part of an interconnected whole rather than an isolated task.
Responsibilities
- Assist in building and commissioning test setups for flywheels and spin caps
- Help implement new safety features on existing test systems
- Support modifications to test systems to accommodate new sensors, hardware, and instrumentation (including wiring and installation)
- Test automation & software (LabVIEW)
- Make guided modifications to existing LabVIEW test code, and grow toward improving flywheel control systems
- Assist senior test engineers in developing LabVIEW routines for new test requests from other teams (e.g., the temperature/humidity test setup requested by Mechanical Engineering)
- Help maintain and debug test software
- Performance & reliability testing
- Execute established FESS performance test plans, including cycle life testing, high power testing, and high speed testing
- Collect, log, and organize test data for engineering review
- Flag anomalies and assist in troubleshooting during testing
- Procedures & documentation
