Overview:

 

Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This full time, direct hire position, will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications and associated construction administration.

This position will be located in our Chattanooga, TN  office. A hybrid work schedule may be supported.

What You'll Do:
This Engineer will work in a dynamic multi-discipline environment, accountable for the oversight of engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, mechanical engineering budget and schedule management, maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel as required by projects. The Engineer will work with other engineering and technical personnel to ensure overall project goals are met. This engineer will have the following responsibilities:

Application of knowledge in Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, and Industrial facilities/systems (Conceptual Design):Ensure understanding and compliance with owner’s requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.

Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, ASME, API, PIP and NFPA.

Establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.

Works with owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options as necessary.

Design:Perform and document engineering calculations related to mechanical engineering for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.

Perform systems and equipment selections and equipment sizing.

Schedule mechanical equipment data sheet and specification reviews.

Ensure project specifications are complete and accurate.

Perform pipe stress analysis utilizing software such as CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.

Work with the project team to design a cohesive, technically acceptable, and optimized piping system.

Perform pressure vessel calculations utilizing software such as PV Elite.

Perform detailed reviews of piping isometrics, piping plans, pipe specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents.

Construction Support:Responsible for problem solving for field oversights, vendor drawing/submittal review, field inspections and report review.

Responsible for addressing project RFI.

Planning/Scheduling:Provide direction for what is to be included in bid package issue.

Work with Project Engineer/Manager to ensure that project schedule will be met, and complete documents provided for each deliverable.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.

8+ years industry experience.

Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.

Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.

Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.

Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.

Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II.

Significant experience with bioprocessing facility equipment and systems.

PV Elite pressure vessel analysis.

Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1.
