Overview:
The Business Analytics (BA) team creates analytical solutions that can be deployed to the bank’s sales teams. We partner with sales leaders and business partners to translate business questions into requirements, identify relevant data sources, create business logic and deploy solutions. This position will be focused on providing analytical support for the SVB’s Tech and Healthcare Banking division.

 

As a Data Scientist on the BA team, you will help inform and facilitate the successful execution of SVB's go-to-market strategies by providing accurate, timely, and meaningful insights. Your primary focus will be producing analyses, building dashboards, optimizing data sources, and driving the standardization and automation of the analytical solutions available in the effort to drive SVB’s growth. You will be responsible for complex data transformations and data mining efforts.  You will serve as the subject matter expert on Tech and Healthcare client data to the Bank’s upper management and sales-supporting teams. You will occasionally partner with other BA team members to implement technological solutions to support the availability of analytical information being used by the Business.

Responsibilities:
Data Analysis – Gathers, organizes, and sorts data to develop moderately complex data models for the department, business unit staff, and other stakeholders. Accesses structured and unstructured systems across the organization, utilizing coding efforts where needed. Generates a business understanding of the data and develops the logic to transform the data into insights that can be leveraged. Provides effective and timely communications on findings.

Reporting - Develops and automates reports, iteratively building and prototyping solutions to provide insights at scale that address Business priorities. Synthesizes data analysis into easily understandable stories for stakeholders.

Data and Operations Support – Provides support for the department regarding technical data questions by coordinating with internal subject matter experts. Reviews existing databases and sources ensuring data is in a readable, organized format. Calls out corrupted data and helps correct coding errors and related problems. Troubleshoots department data sources in a timely and effective manner as needed. Identifies process improvement opportunities and proposes data source modifications.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience in Banking, financial or other directly related industry OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Banking, financial, or other directly related industry

 

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft product suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc)

Proficiency in data visualization using tools such as Tableau, Power Bi, or MATLAB

Experience with data base querying using tools such as SQL, Python, or SAS

Demonstrated success planning, managing, and delivering analytical projects

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Data science, statistics, mathematics, information systems

Demonstrated success developing technical and user documentation

Ability to translate complex calculations, data models, statistical results into easily understood business insights/implications

Solid understanding of BI methodologies and practices
