Responsibilities:
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for assisting in the planning, organization and direction of clinical pharmaceutical services to achieve high quality standards of care in pharmacy services related to specific areas of clinical expertise. Provides specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes for patients. Collaborates with the pharmacy leadership in developing training and education programs and evaluation processes for clinical activities of the pharmacist staff in the clinical specialist’s specific area of expertise. Prepares formulary review and medication use evaluations of medications used in their area of clinical expertise for presentation to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Participates in multidisciplinary teams related to clinical pharmacy initiatives. Achieves and maintains participatory management and partnership with the other pharmacy Clinical Specialists. Achieves and maintains satisfactory working relationships with pharmacy leadership, pharmacy staff and other hospital departments, committees and administrators. Places a strong emphasis on patient care with the patient as the highest priority and central focus in all endeavors and undertakings of the individual and the department.
