Job Description

The main purpose of the role is to focus the advise and direct the company’s strategic commercial and political operations in fuel transition from hydrocarbons to lower greenhouse gas alternatives such as biofuels, hydrogen, and electricity.  The individual will establish, maintain, and oversee productive relationships with government officials, industry trade associations and other adjacent market stakeholders to enable the company to implement its commercial strategy and manage political risk/opportunity across all various business lines. 

Develop and implement a comprehensive federal, state and local government affairs strategy that aligns with Pilot's mission and business objectives

Advocate for federal and state policies that support the advancement of the company’s mission and business objectives

Responsible for building coalitions in support of position on key issues in coordination with trade organizations.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with federal and state government officials, regulatory agencies, governors’ administrations, industry alliances and key policymakers to influence positive outcomes for the company’s mission and business objectives

Collaborate actively with company’s business units to ensure that departments are commercially aligned with arc of policy making and apprised of and engaged in policymaking conversations.

Serve as a trusted advocate for Pilot and the travel center industry by providing support to elected officials and staff. This position is expected to help influence legislation through direct contact with legislators and various public officials

Monitor and analyze proposed federal and state legislation, as well as emerging issues and trends, and to prepare reports and documents to inform and support the company’s commercial operations. This includes drafting timely and informative communications with upper management regarding legislative, regulatory and political impacts to the company.

Manage the internal government affairs team, external lobbyists/consultants covering all political and compliance exposure for Pilot’s retail fuel and convenience store business activities in 44 US states.

Help facilitate communication, collaboration, and coordination with his/her counterparts at other Berkshire Hathaway Energy companies.

Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure team members are supported at the highest level

Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

Complete other duties as assigned
