About the Role:
Sr. Commissions Analyst

 

Job Summary:

The Sr. Commissions Analyst holds a pivotal role in our Sales Analytics team, taking primary responsibility for the accurate execution and analysis of variable compensation for our Senior division sales agents and sales management. This position is integral to ensuring that compensation plans are executed precisely, timely and as designed.

 

Utilizing advanced technical skills, particularly in SQL coding, coupled with a deep understanding of compensation plan design, financial acumen, and business knowledge, the Senior Analyst will oversee all aspects of compensation calculation and execution. This includes researching and resolving commission escalations, conducting thorough analysis of compensation data, and collaborating cross-functionally to address any issues or discrepancies.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work with a sense of urgency. Effective communication and collaboration across departments are crucial for success in this position.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute and analyze variable compensation for Senior Division sales agents and sales management

Utilize SQL coding and other technical skills to ensure accurate calculation of compensation plans

Payroll File Completion & Submission:  Ensure the payroll file is complete, accurate, and timely based on all commissions work and analysis throughout the month and submitted to payroll in advance of the submission deadline

Review and research all commission escalations in conjunction with the Commissions Project Manager and determine outcome; provide detailed information to the Commissions Project Manager and/or Commissions Senior

Manager to ensure a timely and accurate response can be provided to the Sales Agent and submitting Manager

Serve as a primary point of contact for the Commissions Senior Manager and Commissions Project Manager as it relates to Commission calculations and escalations

Collaborate cross-functionally with Management, the Commissions Senior Manager, the Commissions Project

Manager, Sales, and IT Partners to address compensation issues

Master the Core Commissions module and efficiently conduct research to determine the nature of compensation issues

Prioritize tasks and deliverables, demonstrating accountability to achieve timelines

Utilize critical thinking skills to continuously evaluate compensation calculations for reasonableness and accuracy; proactive approach for data checks while being able to react quickly when an issue arises

Develop a deep understanding of all commission programs that reside outside of the Core Commissions compensation module and ensure accurately and timely calculations

Develop a process in conjunction with Core Commissions and internal BI/ETL teams to ensure the commission statements are updating accurately and displaying for all agents

Identify potential operational efficiencies, including self-service tools, and work cross functionally to implement and drive overall efficiencies throughout the entire variable compensation process

Assist in designing, performing, and investigating checks for completeness and accuracy and collecting sign-off from multiple parties to submit to Audit board 

Skills/Abilities:

High attention to detail

Strong business and financial acumen  Rate-volume-mix variance analysis

  Deconstructing and re-constructing pro-forma budget based on agent level

Pairing together budget data, performance data, and compensation data via SQL queries, power query in excel, pivot tables and complex excel formulas

Ability to synthesize and summarize data into executive summaries that is easy to consume and clearly relays pertinent points

Strong communication skills (written and verbal) including group presentations

Creative problem solver with the ability to articulate financial and agent experience impacts

Self-motivated with an extremely strong sense of urgency

Robust analytical skills required to understand the impact of commission changes and review datasets for reasonableness and commission plan compliance

Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to prioritize work based on impact to the organization and deadlines

Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment with competing priorities

Ability to review data files for accuracy in comparison to variable commission plans by position and level

Time management skills to adhere to strict deadlines

High level of proficiency in Excel and SQL

Ability to take a result at an aggregate level and trace through multiple detailed views and stored procedures to its ultimate source

Ability to verify rather than taking at face value (i.e. What else can be checked against and being able to determine what is the best “source of truth”)

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor's degree in a related field required

5+ years of related experience required

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to office work. Could periodically travel to other office and operational sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Travel may be necessary on a monthly basis - quarterly company meetings, occasional team meetings and/or client visits
