Overview:
The Bioinformatics Scientist in the Kidney and Urinary Tract Center at The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital will be responsible for working with laboratory-based scientists and trainees to perform the computational and bioinformatic analyses (including integration of Multi-Omic datasets from genomic, transcription and epigenetic).

 

Bioinformatics Scientist will collaborate closely with principal investigators, staff scientists, technicians, and trainees across various levels. Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth analysis of diverse "omics" datasets, including next-generation sequencing data like RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Proteomics, scRNA-seq, and other large-scale sequencing-derived datasets.

Create high quality figures/visualizations for grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations.

Foster collaborative relationships with KUTC investigators to support both hypothesis testing and hypothesis generation.

Ensure timely delivery of high-quality results by identifying and recommending the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.

Develop and implement advanced bioinformatic methodologies for the integration and interpretation of omics datasets, enhancing the center's bioinformatic analytical capabilities.

Assist in managing center bioinformatic resources for the storage and analysis of large datasets, ensuring efficient data access and utilization by research teams.

Acquire, preprocess, and analyze datasets from external sources such as GEO, NCBI Small Read Archive, and individual labs, providing valuable support to research teams in uploading and utilizing these datasets.

Interface and integrate other bioinformatic/computational-biology/research informatics teams on campus.

Author journal publications and present at professional meetings.

Qualifications:
PhD degree in bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related scientific field.

Experience in computational biology or bioinformatics.

Experience with UNIX/LINUX, including proficiency in shell scripting.

Proficiency in a scripting language, such as Perl, Python or R.

Previous experience next generation sequencing data analysis highly desirable.

Basic knowledge of core bioinformatics databases and tools, including programs for analysis of RNA-seq, Chip-seq, scRNA-seq, WES, and WGS.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential.

Capable of self-directed research within broader goals set by groups.
