Overview:

Cone Health is excited to grow the maternal fetal medicine presence in the Greensboro community and establish its own maternal fetal medicine practice. The genetic counselor will work in close partnership with maternal fetal medicine physician(s) and sonographers. There are genetic counselors in other specialties at Cone Health, a local genetic counseling training program at University of North Carolina Greensboro as well as an extensive genetics community in North Carolina.
Primary job responsibilities include providing genetic counseling for women and families during the preconception and prenatal period, determining and facilitating optimal prenatal genetic testing strategies and timely reporting of genetic test results in an outpatient maternal fetal medicine practice. In addition, the genetic counselor will be responsible for coordinating the care of pregnancies with fetal anomalies/genetic conditions and supporting a growing referral base. The genetic counselor would also coordinate and participate in monthly Multidisciplinary Antenatal Advisory Committee (MAAC) meetings. There may be opportunities to engage in research activities within area of expertise. In addition, may participate in teaching and supervision of genetic counseling graduate students, medical students, residents and other learners

Responsibilities:

Assists physicians and other medical staff with the educational efforts of the department to meet the Genomedical project's objectives.

Assists with the education core of the initiative and contributes to the development and implementation of education programs; acts as an education resource to providers.

Complete tasks within estimated deadlines at a level of quality that matches the program's effectiveness

Documents patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patients; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.

Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of all genetic counseling activities, which includes screening and counseling patients for potential hereditary risk factors and providing ongoing information and support

Work closely with the Study Coordinators at the clinical sites and serve as a liaison between the clinical sites and the Genomedical faculty.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

REQUIRED
Master of Science in Genetic Counseling

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED
Minimum of two years genetic counseling in a clinical setting required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

REQUIRED:
Genetic Counseling Board certification
