Overview:
Blooming Glen Contractors, a partner with the H&K Group, Inc., located in Blooming Glen, PA, is looking for a Superintendent to direct activities of workers concerned with construction of highways, pipelines, or other construction projects. The ideal candidate is an organized, energetic leader with experience in heavy civil construction projects.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs all work according to OSHA and H&K Safety policies

Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of paving project.

Assembles members of organization (supervisory, clerical, engineering, and other workers) at start of project.

Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.

Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.

Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within work force.

Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.

Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.

Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.

Directs workers concerned with major maintenance or reconditioning projects for existing installations.

Qualifications:
Required Skills, Education, and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university OR one year of related experience and/or trainingEquivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Ability to read blueprints and job-related documents.

Strong verbal and written communication skillsRead, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations

Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

Mathematical skills including probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometryAbility to apply concepts to practical situations

Demonstrated leadership ability

Problem solving and business acumen

Basic computer skills including internet, email, and the use of digital cameras for work documentation

Driver’s license and clean driving record

Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed

Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

 

 Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience

Two years of related experience and/or training

Supervisory experience

OSHA or other relevant safety certifications

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, climb, or balance, bend and stoop all day.  The employee may/will operate any/all equipment (paving machine, roller, etc.); which requires climbing up/down, sitting, and requires use of hands, fingers & arms, legs to operate equipment such as start engines, shift gears, press pedals and turning of steering wheels.  The employee's job also includes manually raking and shoveling of dirt, stone, and asphalt, which would equate to lifting/moving at most times a minimum of 20 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Extreme heat (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times) is conducive to this work environment, which is generated from the temperature of the asphalt/paving material and natural weather. Personal body hydration is essential.   Each day the employee is exposed to all types of outside weather conditions including direct sun, heat, cold, rain, dampness, wind, etc. 

The employee is also exposed to moving mechanical machinery and parts, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment at times can be loud.
