Job Description

This role is responsible for maintaining on-site equipment and facility infrastructure at PQ Corporation Joliet through their training and experience with mechanical, electrical, and instrumented systems. The person in this role will primarily be a Journeyperson Mechanic or Journeyperson Electrician, with a secondary skillset in the other discipline. This role will accept a certain amount of scheduled and unscheduled overtime work as needed.

 

If Journeyperson Mechanic: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, clean, and overhaul rotating equipment including pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, agitators, belt conveyors, screw conveyors, vibratory conveyors, bucket elevators, fans, blowers, rotary valves, couplings, belts/sheaves, chains/sprockets, hammer mills, etc.

If Journeyperson Mechanic: Install, troubleshoot, fabricate, maintain, clean, and repair stationary equipment including piping, valves, piping supports, insulation, sheet metal, angle iron, heat exchangers, cooling towers, tanks, pressure vessels, ladders, grating, trenches, handrails, doors, etc.

If Journeyperson Mechanic: Troubleshoot and maintain lube oil systems, shaft sealing systems, and overall equipment/system performance.

If Journeyperson Mechanic: Perform a variety of skilled maintenance trade functions including pipe fitting, welding, carpentry, painting, rigging support and instrumentation.

If Journeyperson Electrician: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, clean, and overhaul electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic digital systems including (phone number removed) volt single and three-phase electrical distribution, disconnect starters and push button stations, ignition wiring systems, control circuits on boilers, combustion equipment, batch weighing and automatic processing equipment, sequential digital logic and distributed digital and analog process control systems.

If Journeyperson Electrician: Calibrate and troubleshoot a wide range of instruments consisting of pneumatic, electronic, and digital modes including pressure, level, temperature and pH controllers and recorders, gas analyzers, weigh cells, air operated valves, electronic probes, programmable controllers, digital and analog controllers, mass flow devices, speed control, pulse flow devices, nuclear measurement devices, etc.

Repair, install, and maintain all plant equipment, buildings, utilities, and services.

Identify specific parts and supplies needed for specific jobs and obtain from the storeroom.

Enter information into the Computerized Maintenance Management System to document work completed, equipment condition, and time reporting.

Notify the supervisor or planner of any circumstances that will require additional parts, assistance, further investigation, or which may delay the scheduled completion of the work.

Clean all work areas and maintain tools and maintenance equipment.

Attend any designated training courses as required by the Company to maintain or improve his or her skills for required mechanical and/or E&I maintenance.

Maintain a working familiarity with all plant processes and equipment and their relation to critical equipment.

Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and requirements.

Comply with company policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned or required.
