Overview:
Must possess or be eligible for Physical Education Teaching certificate as well as Special Education certificate.

 

The Teacher is responsible for providing services specified in the IEPs and/or PEPs of assigned students; instructs and supervises small groups of students in daily educational activities to increase their academic achievement level and to assess or effect changes in their social behavior. A Teacher shall implement the educational program for each class.

Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
• Maintain a safe learning environment for students within the scope of the Arrow Center for Education administrative policies and procedures. Supervises and manages student behavior in the classroom, school and school-sponsored functions.
• Provide direct group and individual instruction to students in English/language arts, math, science, social studies and/or a range of electives and/or other required courses.
• Prepare and utilize comprehensive unit plans to instruct groups of approximately nine (9) students. Utilize academic performance, learning style and clinical information on each student to design and implement curriculum, instructional strategies and materials to “fit” the student.
• Provide a learning environment that is stimulating and motivating to students who generally have not adjusted well to school.
• Assure the timely completion of all necessary paperwork to accurately record student progress. This is to include daily attendance records, grades and behavioral logs.
• Prepare periodic and special evaluations through the IEP or PEP (as applicable) for assigned students. Reports significant changes in educational and social behavior and makes recommendations for plan changes.
• Participate as an active member of the Treatment Team. Communicates all appropriate information within and without the classroom orally and in writing.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a positive school culture.
• Maintain proper rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
• Inform the Principal of all relevant situations.
• Maintain emergency lesson plans to be implemented during unforeseen absences.
• Attend trainings and meetings as required.
• Share/transmit the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to students and families served.
• Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, COA, and NCASES standards.
• May be required to drive ACFM vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete Arrow’s vehicle training.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and a valid (issued) State Department of Education Teaching Certificate in the area required by the specific assignment, or eligible and willing to obtain the certificate within state-mandated timelines. At least one (1) year of teaching experience in special education preferred.
