Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position for Medical Special Procedures is to be responsible for the care of pediatric and adult patients undergoing endoscopic and other gastro-intestinal related procedures during the pre-procedural, procedural and post-procedural phases. The nurse delivers care through the use of the nursing process as reflected in SGNA’s Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Role Delineation Statements in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care. Expected behaviors include, assessment, planning, implementation of nursing of nursing interventions and evaluation of the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of the endoscopic patient pre-procedural, procedural and post-procedural phases of care. The Staff Nurse demonstrates competency to assist the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The Staff Nurse participates in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, participates in student teaching activities, upholds Patient Care Services philosophy and objectives, demonstrates knowledge of SGNA’s Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Role Delineation Statements, SGNA’s Guidelines for Nursing Care of the Patient Receiving Sedation and Analgesia in the GI Endoscopy Setting, SGNA’s Standards for Infection Control and Reprocessing of Flexible Gastrointestinal Endoscopes. AORN’s Age Specific Competency Statements and demonstrates professional growth and development.

Qualifications:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or eligible for New Jersey license. Employment will be contingent upon receiving New Jersey licensure. Adult Medical/Surgical/Special Procedures experience preferred. BSN preferred. BCLS certification required. PALS certification preferred. Must retain a neat, clean, professional appearance. Willingness to work with employees at various levels of skill, knowledge and abilities. Must have understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with physicians and fellow workers. Must pay attention to detail. Must be self-motivated and work in an efficient and effective manner.
