POSITION SUMMARY

TRC is seeking a temporary, on call Architectural Historian reporting to our office in Nashville, TN, with the option for Tennessee-based remote work. The ideal candidate will have strong prior experience working on projects related to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), a working knowledge of Tennessee’s historic resources, and an understanding of how to effectively evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places. The ideal candidate would be highly motivated, flexible, enjoy fieldwork, write well, and adapt well to changing project types and clients.

Responsibilities:
Historical research including deed research, primary and secondary source research

Technical report writing, including architectural descriptions and NRHP evaluations, as well as assessment of effects documents

Review/editing experience

Historic context writing

Proficiency in digital photography

Knowledge of architectural types and styles

Ability to work independently to complete tasks on schedule

Excellent communication skills with the office team as well as with agencies and contractors

Willing to work as part of a collaborative team

Familiarity with GIS and Survey123 would be beneficial

Abide by Company policies and procedures

Other duties and special projects as assigned 

Qualifications:
Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History or History

Master’s Degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation or closely related field

Experience and ability to travel required
