Calling all bookworms  Do you love talking about plots, characters, and the craft of storytelling? Do you have an eye for detail and a strong desire to learn about the business of publishing? HarperCollins Publishers is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the team at HarperCollins Children’s Books. The Editorial Assistant will report to an Executive Editor and Editorial Director, who publish across a wide of array of different age groups and a host of different formats.

 

This is a hybrid position based out of our New York office.

Responsibilities:
Performs administrative and editorial duties and assists in coordinating the publication process from manuscript through bound book.

Composes correspondence, acquisitions memos, and other related items; prepares and responds to routine correspondence.

Assists with market research.

Opens and sorts mail; makes travel arrangements and appointments; maintains and updates files and records; answers telephones and takes messages as needed; processes T&E expenses.

Evaluates manuscripts and query letters; writes reader's reports addressing marketability for imprint.

Monitors and coordinates publishing schedule with Production; acts as liaison to other internal departments (i.e. Design, Publicity, Marketing, Farshore, etc.).

Returns rejected manuscripts; assists in preparing copyrights and permissions information, and obtains information from various sources as necessary.

Writes jacket copy, flap copy, selling copy, and catalog copy as needed.

Manages the contract request process as needed from initial request through fully executed contracts.

Assists in the brainstorming and series development as needed.

Helps evaluate and formulate projects with brands, celebrities, and social media influencers.

Routes and tracks review and approvals from licensors, legal, internal departments, talents, etc.

Qualifications:
4-year college degree or equivalent experience

College-level understanding and use of English language

Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to set priorities under pressure

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Interest in early childhood education and pop culture a plus

The salary for this position is $48,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.  As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
