D430 Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering
Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS) Engineering, Department 430, develops in-house embedded systems and integrates government furnished equipment to support the Strategic Weapons Systems of the Columbia Class and other submarine classes.
Department 430 offers a flexible work arrangement that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on a few variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department.

STRATEGIC WEAPONS SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
This diverse group, comprised of degreed engineers of varied backgrounds and years of Navy experience, performs system and component engineering for the Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS) and Strategic Weapons Support Systems (SWSS) for COLUMBIA/Dreadnought submarine classes. The team moves products from the concept phase, through requirement definition, design, build, test, integration and the full life cycle.
This highly effective team is responsible for:
Ensuring government furnished information (GFI) and Coordinated requirements are successfully integrated into the submarine design
Integrating government furnished equipment (GFE) and systems into the boat
Developing systems and components to support the strategic weapon
Designing and qualifying contractor furnished equipment to meet both government furnished requirements and ship specifications
System Engineering responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop concept of operations for new equipment and systems
Derive system level requirements and capture them in DOORS
Allocate system requirements to components and ensure proper traceability
Review test documentation to ensure all system level requirements have been verified
Collaborate with design team to develop cabling diagrams, wiring tables, component disclosures and cable routing products representative of our systems and component designs
Manager vendors to requirements, schedules and budgets
Support arrangement reviews to confirm proper integration of coordination and GFI requirements
Develop algorithm requirements
Review life cycle documentation to ensure procedures accurately reflect system functionality
Review Coordination and GFI to ensure common system interfaces are defined
Review kit documentation and certify material in accordance with kit schedules
Manage product schedules and budgets
Qualify components in accordance with ship specifications
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and customers
Support test facilities and troubleshoot as necessary
STRATEGIC WEAPONS SYSTEMS ENGINEERING ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS
SWS Engineering Electronic Systems team is responsible for the following:
Design, development, qualification, integration, and in fleet support of the electrical control system elements (components) required to control the environment of the ballistic missile tubes on the COLUMBIA, DREADNOUGHT, and OHIO Class submarines.
SWS Engineering Electronic Systems are responsible for the following components:
Sensors
Human machine interfaces
Embedded systems (PLC architecture)
Controllers
Application software
SWS Engineering Electronic Systems responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Developing and maintaining requirements for components
Review test procedures to verify component level requirements
Developing software for components
Witness and troubleshoot environmental testing
Troubleshooting EB and vendor built components
Project Management
Component development
Obsolescence management
Vendor management
Support components at off site facilities
Integration of components into the system
STRATEGIC WEAPONS SYSTEMS ENGINEERING SIMULATION & TEST
The Simulation and Test group has three primary focuses
Development of custom simulators, which model the behavior of ship systems
Development of custom test equipment, used in construction grooming
Requirements verification of SWS components for both US and UK Submarine components
Simulation and Test responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Developing and maintaining requirements for simulators
Developing and conducting test procedures to verify system and component level requirements
Developing software for custom simulators
Participate in environmental testing
Troubleshooting bugs determined
Development of custom simulators, which model the behavior of ship systems
Development of custom test equipment, used in construction grooming
Requirements verification of SWS components for both US and UK Submarine components
Qualifications:
Required:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Electrical Engineering is preferred, however other technical engineering degrees will be considered
Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel)
Preferred:
Formal test or troubleshooting experience
