HJFMRI is seeking a Director, Global Human Resources to provide support to our international programs operating in all non-US locations, but predominantly across Africa and Southeast Asia and some operations across EMEA. The Global Human Resources Director will provide HR leadership to HJFMRI’s portfolio leaders and their leadership teams by contributing to business unit strategy, developing and executing an aligned people strategy which reflects in-country context, designing global people plans, and ensuring the coherent implementation of global HR processes. The Global HR Director will help implement HJFMRI’s strategic plan for continued growth and globalization.

 

HJF Medical Research International has been working to advance scientific and medical research since 2001. The HJFMRI team leverages its global infrastructure to understand, prevent, and treat infectious diseases and respond rapidly to emerging outbreaks that threaten global public health. 
 
Working side-by-side with researchers, HJFMRI provides a wide range of services that facilitate laboratory research, scientific trials, clinical care, training, capacity-building, facility and laboratory management, and more. From mentoring small entities to managing large consortiums, HJFMRI partners with leading medical research organizations, universities, foundations, and private industry partners to identify, prevent, and treat diseases around the world.  
 
We are a global leader in international medical research programs related to infectious diseases, such as antimicrobial resistance, HIV and other sexually-transmitted infections, febrile and vector-borne illnesses, malaria, Ebola, enteric infections, respiratory infections, and - most recently- SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

Responsibilities:
Provide HR leadership to HJFMRI’s portfolio leadership as it relates to human resources programs and policies, often encompassing several areas of human resources, including organizational development, employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits, performance management, and training.

Provide insightful analysis and proactively raises potential issues of planned strategies, using knowledge of business objectives, structure, leadership style, culture and capability and awareness of external trends and best practices.

Gather and analyze relevant data, trends and patterns and identify gaps and priorities, particularly in the areas of global talent management, performance management, workforce planning, strategic recruitment, and international capability Communicates findings and conclusions to HJFMRI’s portfolio leaders on an ongoing regular basis.

Ensure legal compliance with all applicable labor regulations.

Influence and communicate with all levels of employees including senior leadership and demonstrate the ability to act both strategically and tactically when needed and have skills in the areas of problem solving, systems thinking, diplomacy, conflict resolution and influencing. 

Support HR personnel located internationally at regional and program offices/sites and assist site and portfolio leadership in managing performance as required. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, International Relations or another business-related field.

10-15 years of Human Resources experience in direct relation to global human resources activity. Willing to consider Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

HR experience in two of the three locations: Kenya, Nigeria, and/or Tanzania. 

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix organization.

Willingness to travel internationally as needed.

Familiarity with international development systems and policies.

Demonstrated success working in a highly collaborative, global environment.

Culturally sensitive and respectful to local cultural context.

Former full-time experience working for an international organization implementing global HR best practices.

Experience providing HR management/support to United States Government funded programs.

Knowledge of international US Government Contracting business.

Professional HR and/or Global HR credentials obtained through industry recognized organizations (Example: HRCI or SHRM).

Experience working in the scientific, technical or research fields.

 

Work Environment

Work location is primarily in an office setting; however, travel to locations with austere conditions may be required.

 

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
