Overview:QP Training (D973) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Instructor for the Training School. This position will report to the Chief of Training and play an integral role in the training and qualification of students requiring initial and refresher training. While this individual will teach within the Shipfitting Trade, they will also support course work outside the Shipfitting trade discipline including safety related courses, FMO related courses etc.
This instructor position will be part of a team, responsible for the training of students in various courses. Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of commitment to Safety and Procedure Compliance, be a self-starter and possess strong verbal & written communication skills. Candidates must also possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor and a desire to teach.
Responsibilities & Duties - The responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to:
Instructing multiple courses in a variety of topics
Directing and assessing hands on training with mockups and related exercises
Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during Deck plate audits
Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents
Supporting various course content reviews and related activities
Conducting assessments as scheduled
Meeting with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed
Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics
Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues
Supporting special training projects as required
Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned
Support QP’s development and implementation of the Shipfitting ALC )Active Learning center).
Work Schedule – The selected candidate will be expected to work the following work schedule:
General 2nd shift hours (3:30pm – 12:00am) with flexibility to adjust hours as necessary to support business need
Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)
The individual must be flexible to support short term training assignments on all shifts as needed
Ability to travel locally to various training sites.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
Possess a High school diploma
Have a minimum of 3 years of Shipfitting Trade experience
Have a minimum of 3 years of Electric Boat experience
Currently qualified for Fall Protection or have the ability to pass Fall Protection training requirements
Be comfortable working with heights over 5+ feet
Must be able to climb a ladder and don a Safety Harness as required
Must be able to wear a respirator
Must be able to maneuver throughout the facility and units to support all areas as required
Internal candidates must be from outside Groton Operations (Casciano)
Preferred:
Experience with Forklifts
Experience with Elevated platforms
Prior experience teaching
Associates degree or certificate

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
Have experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Have a willingness and desire to learn and teach new courses and team members with a variety of leaning abilities
