Assists the Security Manager to lead and manage the security program and the Security Officers for Trinity Regional Health System to achieve specific operational, quality, safety, security, service and financial goals while providing a safe and secure environment for visitors, patients, physicians and staff. This includes, but is not limited to, managing crisis situations, personnel, financials, and fostering an environment highly supportive of safety, teamwork, and superior service.

Responsibilities:
Supervisory Leadership, Personnel Management, & Team Building

Coaches, encourages, teaches, and mentors staff to achieve superior team results.

Ensures structured training, in-service classes, coaching and mentoring support system to Public Safety Officers by communicating performance expectations.

Completes department scheduling, computer administration duties, monitors team reports, statistics, and employee performance evaluations.

Develops programs/goals to foster a culture focused on safety, positive team development, and service excellence.

Develops and reviews policy and procedures.

Develops statistical reports, summaries, and other reports to monitor department activities.

Attends workgroup meetings, staff meetings, and participates on committees, as assigned.

Champions diversity by demonstrating respect, encouraging learning, and proactively supporting diversity in team building and customer interactions.

Implements strategy. In the absence of the Manager of Security, also acts as designee.

Manages and monitors the Security department’s payroll/timekeeper program.

 

Supervisory Operations, Service Excellence, Investigations, and Projects

Demonstrates proficiency in each job function within the Security Officer’s job description and acts as a role model for the officers.

Acts to ensure all shift duties and operations are assigned and completed.

Completes specialized projects.

Conducts investigations of various matters and complaints. Completes reports, follows up on investigations or assigns to others in a timely manner, and ensures follow through and proper communication occur.

Prioritizes duties and requests for service, while providing for the safety and security of all persons and property.

Provides extra attention to and monitors matters with identified security sensitive or heightened security areas.

Conducts foot patrols, vehicle patrols, provides escorts, secures facility, monitors high-risk patients, and provides for other security services duties.

 

Compliance, Safety, Crisis Intervention, and Emergency Management

Makes supervisory decisions consistent with policy, procedure, and emergency plans, sometimes including in a timely and effective manner, including without assistance. This may include during highly stressful and dangerous situations.

Responds to and manages security actions related to people in crisis.

Proactively addresses and plans for emergencies, including infant abduction, workplace violence, and crisis events. Focuses on prevention of such occurrences, as well as response to achieve the best outcome for patients, visitors, and staff.

This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

Ensures and works towards continuous compliance with accreditation standards, as well as federal and state laws. Examples include compliance with agencies such as The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Monitors and addresses concerns found in the physical environment.

Maintains training records of Security Officers to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:

Education:

 

 

 

 

High school graduate or GED equivalent.

 

 

International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Advanced Certification

International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Supervisory Certification.

Experience:

 

 

 

 

Minimum of one year of professional experience in public safety, fire/EMS, healthcare, military, or a community-based position.

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

Valid Drivers’ License.

 

International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Certification (if not certified, must obtain certification within 90 days).

Certification in hands only CPR, a candidate will complete the course during orientation.

Certification in “MOAB”, Management of Aggressive Behavior, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment.

Certification in “Patient Restraint and Seclusion” training course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment.

Certification in Handcuffs course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment. 

Certification in Pepper Spray and JPX course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment.

IAHSS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (within 18 months).

Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.  May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
