Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Kennel Assistant plays a key role in the hospital’s success, as their adherence to proper disease control protocols and attention to detail in facility maintenance has a direct impact on patient care and safety.
Kennel Maintenance
Cleans and sanitizes all cages, runs, wards and related areas. Cleans I-ward as directed by LVTs and/or Doctors.
Cleans yard of trash, cigarette butts and feces.
Washes, dries, folds, sorts and distributes laundry.
Sets up kennels/runs for incoming boarders as directed.
Gives baths as directed.
Leaves kennel wards neat and organized for next shift; makes sure all patients and boarders have hospital collars, kennel cards, and boarding sheets.
Boarder Care
Provides fresh food and water to each animal as directed in clean bowls.
Provides cats fresh litter in clean litter pans as required by protocol.
Provides clean, dry bedding for boarders and hospitalized patients.
Washes used dishes and litter pans.
Gives medication as directed on boarding sheet; records appropriately on boarding sheet.
Records observations of boarders daily on boarding sheet.
Recognizes and reports to technicians and/or doctors any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any boarding or hospitalized animal.
Walks boarding dogs as required by protocol.
Releases boarding animals to their owners.
Makes sure all hospitalized animals have been checked by a technician prior to returning to their owners.
Ensures that every animal released is clean and properly groomed.
Hospital Maintenance
Assists with cleaning the building and grounds as directed by the Practice Manager or Kennel Leads, possibly including floors, doors, walls, sidewalks, and windows.
Continually contributes to keeping the hospital neat and clean.
Performs special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
No prior experience required except for a love of cats & dogs. Must be 16 years of age to apply.
