RN National Nurse Residency Program

St. Mary's Medical Center- Long Beach

Overview: 

The New Graduate Residency Program features a challenging program, blending classroom didactics with clinical experience and unit socialization. This program is for recent graduates of RN programs who have graduated within one year prior to the start of the program.

This residency programs will consist of:

12-24 weeks of classroom and online educational presentations. Must be available to attend all scheduled dates during the orientation weeks.

Initial follow-up competency validation and development plans

Clinical rotation under the supervision of qualified preceptors

Ongoing meetings with the clinical educator, preceptor and others to assure progression and advancement on the continuum from novice to competent performance.

 At the completion of the program, the participants will be able to:

Successfully handle adult patient assignments

Demonstrate a complete physical and psychosocial assessment on a patient

Take appropriate problem-solving actions when confronted with a clinical or administrative dilemma

Work cooperatively and effectively with physicians, family members and other members of the healthcare team.                                                                                                     

Our program is facilitated by nurse experts with special emphasis on: clinical skills, critical thinking skills, leadership abilities, communication skills, patient safety, and professional career development.                                               

 Purpose:

The purpose of the program is to foster a successful transition from student, to the role of RN and to facilitate the New Grad to develop personally and professionally within the auspices of a caring and collaborative environment to become a competent nurse in the acute care setting.

 

 

Department:
Department selection will be decided upon completion of the interview process.

 

Timeline:

Requisitions posted April 1-10. The postings may be removed early, after 100 applications have been received.

Interviews will be held in person the week of April 29, 2024

Offers will be extended no later than May 22, 2024

First day of Orientation is July 22, 2024

 

Qualifications:

Current California license as a Registered Nurse.

Minimal education as required for licensure. BSN preferred.

Current American Heart Association BLS

*Additional certifications to be required based on department.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:

Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing

0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience

Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record 

Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks 

Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays 

Must agree to terms and conditions of the program

Current American Heart Association BLS
