Responsibilities:
Reviews and approves expenditures and transactions for appropriateness, proper authorization, financial accuracy and accounting classification; ensures transactions are accurately recorded in the books and records of the institution on a timely basis; oversees the preparation, review, analysis and interpretation of account balances, financial statements, statistical reports, and other reports for management using a PC; oversees and/or participates in special projects to include: the installation or adoption of new systems or techniques, providing special information or reports, preparing operating and capital budgets, and assisting other departments with financial-related activities; maintains a system of internal controls in assigned areas of responsibility to ensure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial data; reviews and participates in the periodic analysis of accounts to verify that charges, credits, allowances, reserves, assumptions, estimates, and balances are accurate and fairly stated given the financial circumstances; provides financial information and/or support for internal or external auditors and consultants; presents information in person and/or in writing to various audiences, including department, hospital, and University management; supervises staff to include assigning duties, checking work, approving time off, signing time sheets, handling disciplinary issues, preparing evaluations, and providing in-service and educational opportunities; stays abreast of electronic data processing systems in the Accounting Department and in related areas; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies; regular and prompt attention; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years progressively responsible professional accounting experience, two years of which were in a supervisor capacity.
