Overview:
The Clinical Educator of Respiratory is responsible for coordinating and providing education and training opportunities for healthcare staff to meet requirements of JCAHO/OSHA, Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, and the organization. They are to provide leadership and staff development through education. He/she will assess, design, implement and evaluate educational needs and programs which develop and improve practice. Role will also facilitate the work of Respiratory Care councils and interdisciplinary committees.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Consults with department employees and managers to assess education/training needs for staff

Identifies, develops, and provides program objectives and designs the method of education/training used.

Posts internal and external educational opportunities

Orientation plans for employees

Competency testing and simulation

Acts as a resource and/or support to other departments in meeting their educational needs

Serves as department liaison to Organizational Development and Learning as well as the clinical development and nursing staff

Maintains collaborative relationships with all nursing leaders with patient series that utilize respiratory therapists

Serves as a liaison for all Fairview RT departments

Coordinates and tracks orientation, competencies and simulations

Coordinates special educational projects and equipment roll outs.

Acts as liaison for clinical affiliations

Functions as a Respiratory Car Practitioner

Participates in division, hospital and medical staff committees and councils

Assist in the development, revision and communication of division and hospital wide policies and procedures. Promote awareness, interpretation and implementation of these policies.

Participate in improving organizational performance though recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input

Organization Expectations, as applicable:

Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.

Communicates in a respective manner.

Ensures a safe, secure environment.

Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.

Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.

Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.

Fulfills all organizational requirements

Completes all required learning relevant to the role

Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.

Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required

 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Science, Education of Health Care Management, or related field.

Licenses/Certifications

License Respiratory Therapist (LRT) through the MN Board of Medical Practice

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Experience

3 years as a clinical Respiratory Therapist with experience as a charge/ lead therapist and preceptor

Instructional skills and knowledge in adult learning theory, educational technology, and methodology

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement educational programs

Broad base of knowledge related to clinical practice, evidence based practice and supporting an infrastructure focusing on front line involvement

Ability to manage improvement projects, including gap analysis, needs assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation
