Job Description
DB2 Database Administrator (DBA)
Location:
New York, New York (Partial Remote)
- Alternating days in person and online. Role Overview Our organization has a vacancy for a DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) with experience supporting DB2 v12 or higher on an IBM z/OS platform. The primary responsibility is working with application development teams to support various financial management systems. A selected candidate will participate in an on-call rotation and have flexible work hours to support project development.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the efficient installation, configuration, and tuning of DB2 databases.
- Author and validate procedures for all database processes.
- Identify potential issues and deliver modifications or updates for DB2 programs.
- Work with application development teams to install and migrate software releases and support data fixes.
- Define and execute database recovery functions and standard tuning procedures like runstats and reorgs.
- Monitor the health of key database operations, including backup/recovery processes, logging, and system response times.
- Perform troubleshooting of DB2 databases for online and batch programs during production and testing phases.
- Perform system administration activities for the IBM InfoSphere Data Replication product.
- Open and manage tickets logged with IBM to resolution.
- Assist with tool upgrades and participate in Disaster Recovery drills. Required Qualifications
Education:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, or a related field with four years of relevant experience; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience:
- Experience with large-scale, enterprise-wide, governmental budget and accounting solutions.
- Experience working with application teams to build and maintain data propagation solutions using IBM InfoSphere Replication Server. Technical
Skills:
- Experience with IBM DB2 V12 or higher.
- Experience with CICS transaction server.
- Ability to author REXX scripts and troubleshoot assembler code.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues with DB2 embedded within COBOL programs.
- Ability to perform all database administration duties, including backup/recovery, reorgs, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in performance tuning at a DB2 system level or for individual SQL statements/procedures. Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Oracle Transparent Gateway product.
- Knowledge of DB2 UDB, including experience with DB2 connect.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting the IBM Tivoli LDAP server product on AIX.
- Ability to install and manage DB2 on AIX platforms.
