NAU VISTA Project: City of Flagstaff Outreach VISTA

The VISTA will build the outreach capacity of the City of Flagstaff Office, which struggles to reach new audiences for engagement, volunteer recruitment, and participation in services, especially those living in poverty. The VISTA will develop and coordinate best practices to reach a broader group of residents, with the goal of creating stronger connections and a healthier, more vibrant community. This work will assist Flagstaff’s COVID-19 recovery by connecting residents with each other and with government services. By connecting residents to important community resources, the VISTA will help the City of Flagstaff reduce poverty in the surrounding community. Member Duties : -Connect the City of Flagstaff with community centers to establish collaborative efforts to better serve individuals living in poverty. -Identify gaps in Flagstaff Community Grants. Assess whether neighborhoods have been affected by COVID19 or are in lower economic standing. -Assess social media methods and content types for opportunities to create more compelling content, and engage and build community, particularly with low-income residents. -Develop and evaluate new messaging to reach community members in lower economic standings. -Work with community partners to elevate their projects, increasing the grant’s impact, and giving community organizations additional capacity to carry out COVID-19 recovery, poverty reduction, transportation, energy, and food systems projects. -Strengthen outreach for programs to recruit new volunteers, building community strength, creating connections among residents, and helping participants build skills to recover from and respond to emergencies.
