IN THIS ROLE:
Are you passionate about financial accuracy, collaboration, and making a difference through effective grant management? Do you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems, and ensuring resources are managed responsibly to support educational programs and initiatives? Oakland Schools is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated Grants and Funded Projects Specialist to join our Financial Services team.
In this role, you will oversee the accounting, budgeting, compliance, reporting, and reimbursement processes for a variety of Federal, State, and Local grants and funded projects. You'll collaborate with program managers, school districts, and other partners while ensuring financial accuracy, meeting critical deadlines, and maintaining compliance with applicable requirements.
If you thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy managing multiple priorities, and are looking for an opportunity to combine your financial expertise with meaningful work that supports education, we'd love to hear from you
WHAT WE NEED:
You will play a vital role in ensuring fiscal integrity and compliance across our grant-funded programs. In this dynamic position, you will oversee grant revenue and expenditure budgets using state-mandated coding systems, maintain standard governmental accounting practices, and continuously monitor compliance—taking proactive corrective action whenever necessary. Working closely with program managers, local education agencies (LEAs), grant sub-recipients, and external auditors, you will reconcile accounts, manage general ledger adjustments, and prepare essential monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Beyond core accounting and annual audit preparation, you will serve as a subject matter expert by leading in-depth grant training for staff and directly supporting the financial success of our educational initiatives.
WHAT YOU NEED:
• An Associate degree in Accounting or related field and/or equivalent experience, Bachelor's preferred.
• Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) Business Office Specialist certification preferred, or the ability to obtain upon hire.
• 3-4 years of related experience, school grant accounting preferred.
