Controller
Sonrisa Family Dental
· Full-time
· On site
· Chicago, IL We are looking for a Controller who takes pride in a clean close and wants to build a Finance function the right way, alongside a leadership team that is building everything else the same way. ABOUT SONRISA Sonrisa Family Dental and its affiliated practices are a large multi-location dental group across Illinois and Florida, caring for Medicaid and commercially insured families side by side in the neighborhoods we serve. Sonrisa means smile, and our mission is to give every family high-quality, compassionate care, every patient, every visit, every office. THE ROLE We are building the foundation for our next stage of growth: a separate entity and bank account for each location, one well-built Sage Intacct structure across every entity, a new Billing and Credentialing department, and the leadership team to run it all. We are bringing Finance in house, and this is the seat that leads it. Our leaders should be able to open any office's profit-and-loss statement and know, in a minute, whether it had a good month and why. As our Controller, you make that possible. You report to our Chief Operating Officer and work directly with our President. WHAT YOU WILL OWN
• The month-end close for every entity, on a fixed date, with a profit-and-loss statement for every location by the 15th of the following month
• Reconciliation of every bank, merchant, credit card and loan account, and intercompany balances that eliminate on consolidation
• Revenue booked to the right office: daily deposits and Electronic Fund Transfers (EFTs) matched against Dentrix Ascend and the bank, with our billing team
• Expenses booked to the right office: every invoice, payroll dollar and shared cost coded under a chart of accounts built for a multi-location dental group
• Payroll accuracy in Paylocity with Human Resources, and doctor compensation calculations for leadership review
• Accounts payable and spending controls: vendors and labs paid on terms, purchase approvals and limits enforced, savings brought forward
• Sage Intacct as our system of record, set up once and used the same way at every location
• Budgets, forecasts and year-end: an annual budget and pro forma for each office, a clean package for our outside CPA firm, and the reporting our banks and lenders require
• A Finance team and playbook: accounts payable and bookkeeping brought in house, and a written procedure for every recurring task HOW YOU WILL KNOW IT IS WORKING
• The close lands on the published calendar, every month
• Every location has its profit-and-loss statement by the 15th
• Deposits and EFTs are matched to the right office by the next business day
• Payroll is verified before every submission, and vendors are paid with no late fees WHAT YOU BRING Required
• A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three owning the month-end close as a controller, assistant controller or accounting manager
• Multi-entity
experience:
intercompany accounting, consolidation and shared-cost allocation
• Strong command of Sage Intacct, including multi-entity consolidation and dimensions
• Payroll accounting experience, ideally with Paylocity
• Advanced Excel and the ability to turn the general ledger into reports a non-accountant can act on
• Unquestioned integrity and discretion with confidential financial, payroll and patient information Strongly preferred
• Two or more years of accounting experience in the dental industry: a dental group, dental service organization or dental practice, including insurance and Medicaid payments and production and collections reporting Also valued
• CPA license
• Experience with Dentrix Ascend and with doctor compensation based on production or collections
• Experience preparing reporting for banks, lenders or investors
• Bilingual English and Spanish
WHAT WE OFFER
• A full-time, salaried leadership seat at our corporate office in Chicago, Monday through Friday, with extended hours at month-end and year-end close
• Health insurance, dental insurance, 401(k) and paid time off
• The chance to build Finance from the ground up and shape how every new office is set up as we grow If this sounds like the work you want to do, we would like to hear from you. Apply here or send us a message.
