Job description
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Cloud Engineer to help build, govern, and expand a large-scale global Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. This role is part of a Public Cloud Engineering team focused on improving cloud maturity, enabling resilient cloud-native applications, delivering secure and compliant cloud solutions, and reducing time to market. The ideal candidate is a strong cloud engineer who remains highly hands-on, writes code regularly, and has deep experience with GCP, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, Git/GitOps, automation, cloud governance, and cloud-native architecture.
What You'll Do
Build and enhance tools used to govern and manage a large-scale global GCP environment. Develop enterprise-grade cloud automation and self-service capabilities for internal engineering teams. Design and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions, primarily using Terraform. Apply Git and GitOps practices to cloud infrastructure and automation. Help engineering teams design and build resilient, scalable cloud-native applications. Establish cloud platforms that are secure, compliant, cost-effective, observable, and easy for development teams to adopt. Build and improve CI/CD and cloud automation capabilities. Support cloud governance, observability, security, and operational best practices. Troubleshoot complex cloud and production issues. Evaluate emerging cloud-native and open-source technologies and incorporate appropriate best practices. Collaborate with engineering teams to continuously improve cloud capabilities and standards. Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership across cloud initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Approximately 10+ years of recent hands-on experience as a cloud architect or engineer in public cloud environments. Extensive hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Strong knowledge of Git, GitOps, CI/CD, and enterprise automation. Hands-on programming/scripting experience with the ability to write code regularly. Experience building enterprise-grade cloud automation toolsets. Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies and application architecture. Experience designing cloud platforms with security, compliance, scalability, reliability, and cost optimization in mind. Knowledge of modern cloud governance and observability practices. Experience building self-service cloud capabilities for engineering teams. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor other senior engineers. Ideal Background
